Manual information organization vs automated methods: The link to different types of search goals

Some practitioners within enterprises believe manual and automated tagging are contradictory mutually exclusive approaches. To use both is inefficient.

The paper presents a ‘best of both worlds’ model, where manual and automated techniques for tagging, categorization and classification are linked to search goals. This paper argues they augment one another, for a best of both worlds approach avoiding, “The Tyranny of the OR“.
