Generating questions

I’ve been experimenting using ChatGPT to generate candidate questions given document text input. The example is on Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHP) from a British Geological Survey Report in the NORA collection. It might be useful for organisations to store a ‘question bank’ of such Generative AI outputs (questions) for a corpus, sliced in numerous ways. It may give the user browsable data driven ideas of what type of content they are searching and types of questions they could ask.

Just providing a search box and asking the user to ‘ask any question’ may lead to missed ‘co-creation’ opportunities. Generating these questions on content from numerous documents, also raises the possibility of generating a question that would not necessarily be apparent from any single document.

In exploratory search goals, its not just about finding information, its about finding what are the questions to ask that may lead to the most useful learnings. An area for potential further research.
